How to secure permission to film in Jamaica?

Overseas companies wishing to film in Jamaica, whether still shoots, music videos, documentaries, reality and other television shows, must apply to the Jamaica Film Commission for a Film Licence.

How to Apply

Complete and submit the Film Licence Application Form available on the website of the Jamaica Film Commission: http://www.filmjamaica.com/

Applicants should also submit:

o   A one-page description of the company and project

o   The itinerary of lead production personnel

o   A list of personnel with information such as name position, nationality, date of birth and passport number. It should be noted that a condition of the licence is that Jamaican personnel such as production managers, technicians, actors, etc. must be used.

o   Person(s) traveling to Jamaica to work for less than 30 days will be admitted as a Business Visitor.  If the project lasts beyond 30 days, each member of the production team will require a Work Permit Exemption.  Applications for the Work Permit Exemption can be facilitated through the Film Commission.

The production company should ensure that the equipment needed is not available in Jamaica, as one of the conditions of the Film Licence is that whenever feasible, equipment available in Jamaica should be used. The services of a Customs Broker must be employed to assist with the clearing of equipment, failure to do so will result in the equipment being detained. A list of Custom brokers is available from the Film Commission’s website.
