Eight Young Women to Vie for the Title of Miss Kingston & St Andrew on May 13

Eight talented young women will vie for the title of Miss Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Kingston & St. Andrew Festival Queen 2017 at a coronation scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017.

This event will be under the patronage of the Mayor of Kingston, Senator, Councillor Delroy Williams.

The contestants, Kimberly Waul, Shaneka Hall, Tashanique Thomas, Abigail Palmer, Samoya Jordon, Justine Douglas, Deanna Clarke and Daina Dyer, were sashed by their sponsors at a Mayoral Reception and Sashing ceremony held on April 20 at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, 36 Hope Road, Kingston 10.

The sponsors are Clearsound Productions, Cals Manufacturing, FMAS Customs Brokers, Softsheen-Carson, Kingston & St. Andrew Muniipal Corporation, P.T.G. Electrical Building Solutions, Café Netia Featuring Deafcan Coffee and Fontana Pharmacy.

Bringing greetings at the ceremony, Acting Executive Director of the JCDC, Orville Hill, said the JCDC Festival Queen Competition is an integral part of Jamaica’s culture.

He said that the programme exposes the talents of a number of young women who are “dynamic and self-driven.”

“We have several persons who have within them a lot of creative ideas and it is just for the right occasion to present itself where that talent can be unearth and brought to the forefront and so develop their confidence,” he added.

He said the programme seeks to create within the entrants an awareness of the contribution they can make to national development and nation building.

“They are exposed to a number of areas, so whether they end up being crowned or not it will be of significant benefit to the participants,” he said.

He lauded the contribution made by the sponsors, noting that without their support, “the programme would not be at the level and standard that we know and expect it to be.”

The winner of the Competition will represent the parish in the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Contest.
