Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Floyd Green, has lauded members of the Joint Committee for Tertiary Education (JCTE) for its impact on the country’s education system.

“You have served the country’s education system for years and have, through your own lives, truly led to the transformation of our education landscape,” the State Minister said.

He was delivering the keynote address at the JCTE EDU-Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) awards ceremony, held at the Holiday Inn Resort in Montego Bay, recently.

Mr. Green said no institution, programme or project can succeed without visionary and clear-thinking leadership that appreciates and encourages teamwork.

He argued that the collaborative approach taken in charting new programmes in education and training is a practical demonstration of teamwork.

The Minister emphasized that as members of the political directorate and as educators setting policy, “we have to deepen our partnerships to become more responsive and to help develop the kind of trained workforce that will help lift our society out of poverty and on to a more sustainable path of social and economic development.”

He said that in a changing world, Jamaica needs the kind of education that enables the country’s workforce to be adaptive global citizens as well as economic actors in the development of the society.

“I think what is important now is that we all have a shared vision of where we are going. We must ensure that we make the education system more efficient and serve a real purpose of a better quality of education for our students,” the State Minister said.
