Education Minister to Address American Association of University Women

Education and Youth Minister, Maxine Henry-Wilson, will deliver the keynote address at the Philadelphia Branch Committee of the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) panel discussion slated for April 19.
The theme for the function, which will be held at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, is: ‘Science as a career goal for women.’
According to the chairman of the planning committee, Dr. Cora Turpin, the planning committee is very excited that the Jamaican Minister of Education has accepted the invitation to be the keynote speaker at the event.
Minister Henry Wilson, she said, was selected based on her outstanding contribution to the Jamaican educational system.
Among the panelists will be Dr. Andrea Liu, professor of physics and Astronomy, University of Pennsylvania; and Dr. Linda Powell, chairman of the Biology Department, Community College of Philadelphia.
The mission of AAUW is to advance equity of women and girls through advocacy, education and research. The group actively pursues issues of women of diverse background, culture, perspectives and profession.
The Philadelphia branch of the AAUW was established in 1935 and is part of the National AAUW, which has a membership of 125,000 and the International Foundation of Women, which is 180,000 strong.
