Dr. Phillips Orders Review into Investigation of Bob Woolmer Case

A team headed by former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ian Forte, is to carry out a review of the circumstances surrounding the investigation into the death of former Pakistan cricket coach, Robert ‘Bob’ Woolmer.
Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips, who made the announcement during his contribution to the 2007/08 Sectoral debate in the House of Representatives yesterday (June 13), pointed out that the review would “access the appropriateness of the techniques and the standards of professionalism employed by police investigators, as well as the medical and professional personnel”.
This exercise is to be completed within six weeks and the report is to be submitted to the Minister no later than July 31.
Mr. Phillips noted that the circumstances of the case have brought into focus, the need for the most up-to-date forensic capabilities possible, including the need to construct a new public morgue.
Bob Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Sunday (March 18), a day after the Pakistan cricket team was knocked out of the ICC Cricket World Cup by Ireland, and was later pronounced dead at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Following intensive investigations, the Jamaica Constabulary Force has closed its investigation into the death of the former Pakistan cricket coach and has accepted that he died of natural causes and was not murdered as was previously stated.
