Don Wehby Takes His Seat in the Senate

Business executive, Donald Wehby, was today (May 20) sworn in as the 13th Government Senator in the Upper House.

Mr. Wehby took the Oath of Allegiance during a brief ceremony prior to the sitting of the Chamber.

The Group Chief Executive Officer at GraceKennedy Limited, Mr. Wehby served as a Senator and Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service from 2007 to 2009.

He chairs the Task Force on Tourism Contribution and Linkages, and is the Vice-President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ).

He previously served the PSOJ as a member of its Economic Policy Committee and Honorary Treasurer.

Mr. Wehby is the last Senator to be installed in the Upper Chamber of the House.

He joins Government members: President, Tom Tavares-Finson; Deputy President, Aubyn Hill; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith; State Minister for National Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jnr; and Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Ruel Reid.

The other Government Senators are: Kavan Gayle; Ransford Braham; Dr. Saphire Longmore; Kerensia Morrison; Matthew Samuda; Delroy Williams; and Charles Sinclair.

The Opposition Senators are: Leader of Opposition Business, Mark Golding; Mayor of Kingston, Dr. Angela Brown Burke; former President of the Senate, Floyd Morris; K.D. Knight; Noel Sloley; Wensworth Skeffery; Sophia Frazer-Binns; and Lambert Brown.
