December 16 to 23 is Kingston and St. Andrew Homecoming Week

The inaugural Kingston and St. Andrew Homecoming Week 2017 will be held from December 16 to 23.

The event is being organised by the Kingston and St. Andrew Development and Homecoming Foundation (KSADHF) Limited, which is chaired by Custos Rotulorum for the Parish of Kingston, Hon. Steadman Fuller.

Homecoming Week, slated to become an annual flagship event of the Foundation, will invite residents and members of the diaspora to participate in activities to highlight the achievements of outstanding citizens, while promoting the nation’s capital and its world-renowned cuisine, art and entertainment.

Speaking at the launch of the KSADHF held recently at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston, Custos Fuller informed that the week will include thanksgiving services, and guided educational/cultural tours.

Also planned is a welcome party with Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, as well as a family day and reunion.

Other activities include community concerts, a celebrity cricket match, a homecoming gala and awards ceremony, a grand market and food festival, and a boat fest at the Kingston Harbour.

The Kingston and St. Andrew Homecoming Week is endorsed as a major event of the ‘Jamaica 55’ Independence celebrations.

Custos Fuller said the celebration will coincide with the 145^th anniversary of the declaration of Kingston as the capital of Jamaica on April 4, 1872.

In 1923, the Government bodies of the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew were amalgamated by the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation Act to form the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

The KSADHF is a non- profit, non-governmental organisation formed with the objective of leveraging the human, economic, educational and cultural resources to foster development and improve the quality of life of the residents of the parishes.
