Cuba Committed to Forging Closer ties with Jamaica

Cuba’s Ambassador to Jamaica, Jose Piedra Rencurrell has said that Cuba was fully committed to strengthening relations between itself and Jamaica, as the countries devised strategies to take advantage of globalization.
The Ambassador, who was addressing a meeting of the Portland Parish Council recently, said the various areas of cooperation that exist between Jamaica and Cuba was testament of the friendship they have enjoyed over the years. Among the areas of collaboration are, health and education services, with a number of Cuban nationals working here as doctors and nurses, while Jamaicans have sought further education in Cuba.
Turning to the twinning of the city of Santiago with Port Antonio in 1997, Ambassador Piedra said this was a practical example of the closeness that existed between the two countries.
Earlier in the function, the Ambassador was welcomed to the parish by Mayor of Port Antonio, Councillor Alston Hunter and Member of Parliament for Eastern Portland, Dr. Donald Rhodd. The two expressed gratitude to the government and people of Cuba for the assistance to Jamaica over the years.
