Courts Get Audiovisual Equipment

Several departments within the Ministries of National Security and Justice received over $2.4 million worth of audiovisual equipment on Monday (Feb. 9), as part of the continued thrust to strengthen the capabilities of the Courts and the administration of justice in the island.
The equipment, inclusive of computer systems, overhead projectors and other multimedia devices were donated under the direct sponsorship of the Citizen Security and Justice Programme, a partnership between the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The project’s main objective is to enhance security and justice in Jamaica by strengthening crime management capabilities and improving the delivery of judicial services, through partnering with civil society and strengthening the various components of both ministries.
Within the Ministry of Justice, the Police Public Complaints Authority (PPCA), the Family Court of Kingston and St. Andrew and the Family Court of the Western Region benefited from equipment worth US$15,053 (J$903,180).
Meanwhile the Victim Support Unit and the Strategic Planning and Policy Research Unit within the Ministry of National Security received equipment totalling US$25,000 (J$1.5 million).
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Carol Palmer who presided at the brief handing over ceremony said the occasion was a delightful one. She expressed gratitude to the sponsors for the accomplishments of the programme.
