Consultant On Trade For Shirley Playfair Lecture Series

The fourth staging of the annual Shirley Playfair Lecture series will this year feature, world-renowned consultant on trade and competition issues,Dr. James Mathis.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, September 11, at the Knutsford Court Hotel at 6:00 pm.
A Lecturer at the Amsterdam Law School, Dr. Mathis is also a consultant to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He has served as occasional advisor to the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group and the European Community (EC) Commission, on trade and competition issues and has published articles on trade and competition policies and transatlantic regulatory issues in the Journal of World Trade.
Dr. Mathis will make his presentation along the theme, ‘Competition and Regulatory Policies in the WTO: Implications of a Multilateral Competition Policy Framework’.
Commerce, Science and Technology Minister, Phillip Paulwell, will deliver the opening address.
The Lecture is hosted each year by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC), an agency of the Ministry of Commerce, Science and Technology. The event is free and is open to public. However, the presentation would be of particular interest to businesspersons, lawyers and economists as well as students and lecturers, and persons working in government ministries and agencies.
The Shirley Playfair Lecture is held in honour of the former FTC Chairman, who was serving in that capacity at the time of her tragic death a few years ago.
The FTC is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year under the theme: Competition for Economic Growth and Development.
