Chinese VP Arrives on Official Visit

Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, and an entourage including Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Li Jinzhang, and the President of the China Development Bank(CDB), Jiang Chaoliang, landed at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, last night (Feb. 11), for an official visit to Jamaica.
His Exellency and the delegation were met by Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding and Cabinet Ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh, as well as the Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Chen Jinghua
During his visit, the Chinese Vice President is expected to sign a number of agreements with the Jamaican Government covering agriculture, finance, education and infrastructural development. He will also participate in a very hectic schedule of social activities, including courtesy calls on the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, and Leader of the Opposition, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, and visit the University of the West Indies(UWI), Mona Campus, where a presentation will be made of a plaque for the Confucius Institute to be established there.
On Thursday morning, he will meet with the staff of the Chinese Embassy and members of the Chinese community in Kingston. In the afternoon, he will attend a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister(OPM), and he will be the guest of Prime Minister Golding and his Cabinet at a dinner at Jamaica House.
On Friday, the Vice President will visit Montego Bay, St. James, where he will be presented with the Key to the City by the Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Charles Sinclair Jnr., and take part in the official groundbreaking ceremony for the convention centre at Rose Hall.
