CAC to Publish Banks’ Transaction Charges

June 6, 2009

The Full Story

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) will publish a survey of financial institutions transaction charges in the Commission’s public survey reports, starting next Wednesday.
Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Karl Samuda, made the announcement of the date of the publication on Thursday (June 4), while addressing a press briefing at his Ministry, St. Lucia Avenue, New Kingston.
“You will find them very interesting, and I am sure that there are many people who will look forward to seeing exactly what are the charges you are subjected to,” he asserted.
The Survey of Bank Charges will add to a growing list of items in the Commission’s Consumer Alert publication. Deemed as an effective medium of keeping consumers informed, Consumer Alert is currently a bi-weekly publication of food and petrol prices conducted by the Government in an effort to educate consumers on the best prices available across the country.
Mr. Samuda explained that hardware merchandise would be the next consumer item to be surveyed by the consumer watch-dog organisation. The publication is posted on the Commission’s website, http://www.consumeraffairsjamaica.gov.jm/. The publication also appears in the daily newspapers.
