Cabinet approves group health insurance for Housing Agency of Jamaica

Cabinet has approved a contract for the provision of group health insurance for the Housing Agency of Jamaica Limited to Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing on November 17, at Jamaica House, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, said the group health insurance coverage is expected to last from 2010 to 2011 and 2012 to 2013.
The Minister pointed out that the first year of the contract will have fixed premium rates and an appropriate value of $12,637,500.00.
“As part of its employer obligations, the Housing Agency of Jamaica Limited is required to provide group health insurance for permanent members of staff and retirees,” he said.
He further noted that members of staff currently have and will continue to have the option to add their dependents to their individual plans.
The contract was recommended by the National Contracts Commission and the Infrastructure Subcommittee.
