Buses Arrive For Cricket World Cup

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is reporting that 24 of the 50 buses that will be used during the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC), have arrived in the island.
While 20 of the buses are expected to be cleared off the wharf this week, four of them arrived previously, one of which has already been put into service for the training of selected drivers, who will be responsible for transporting persons to and from park and ride sites as well as both host venues.
Gwyneth Davidson, Marketing and Public Relations Manager of the JUTC told JIS News that the buses are 40-seat MAN air-conditioned models.
While not disclosing whether the remaining 26 buses would arrive in time for the event, which begins officially on March 11, she assured that the JUTC would honour its obligation to provide a shuttle system for the park and ride arrangements for Sabina Park.
“The JUTC has been refurbishing other buses that will be dispatched into that service, so even if all do not arrive in time, we believe that we will have enough for the event,” she said.
“We have been really working hard to refurbish some buses and bring back some dormant buses into service, so that those will complement the new ones,” Mrs. Davidson added.
These buses will go into regular service after the event to provide better service to regular commuters.
Sabina Park has been selected to host six matches in the group stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and one semi final match. The first match will bowl off between Pakistan and the West Indies on March 13.
