Brown’s Town Police gets Refurbished Facility

Police personnel at the Brown’s Town Police Station, in St. Ann, are now benefiting from an accommodation facility, refurbished at an estimated cost of $5 million.
The two-floor facility, comprising a bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchenette, an evidence room and a carport, which was refurbished by the Apostolic Ark Pentecostal Church of Jamaica, Inc., in collaboration with the business community, was officially handed over on Friday (April 2) to the police.
Speaking at the handing over exercise, Assistant Commissioner of Police, C.B. Scarlet, said the construction, done through the spirit of volunteerism, showed an act of love and care, “as we witness a standing monument, which points out that crime reduction cannot be done by the police alone”.
Commending the donors for their effort through partnership, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area Two, G.E. Kameka, said the handing-over exercise was a happy occasion for the officers and the wider community, as it was a good thing for citizens to feel that they owned the facility and would seek to take care of it.
In his remarks, Bishop Jeffrey Johnson, Pastor for the church, said the reality of the refurbished building came as a part of the institution’s outreach programme, pointing out that the church worked on a vision that came to authenticity.
Giving a brief history of the refurbishing exercise, the church’s general secretary, Dorrel Campbell, said when the community’s fraternal body visited the station in 2002, they decided to start garner funds to make the convenience a more hospitable one, adding that the “work was engineered by Bishop Johnson”.Other persons who took part in the handing-over ceremony, included, Norma Walters, wife of R. O. Walters, Custos of St. Ann; Verna Parchment, Member of Parliament for the area; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, C. B. Scarlet.
