Basic School Chosen as Parish Project in St. Ann

Fencing of the Philadelphia Basic School in St. Ann has been selected as the Labour Day parish project for Monday, May 24. This project, which is estimated to cost some $260,000, has been chosen from about 64 other projects that have been registered with the St. Ann Parish Council.
Labour Day will be observed under the theme – ‘Safety First.Avoid the Worst’.
Speaking yesterday (May 10) at a Labour Day Committee meeting, held at the Council’s offices, Chairman, R. O. Walters, Custos of the parish, said while the focus was on the painting and re-painting of pedestrian crossings in several communities, attention would be paid to other projects, including the erection of school and directional signs, and the beautification of the Resident Magistrate’s (RM) court in the parish.
Other registered projects include fencing of the Exchange All-age School; cleaning drains in Watsonville; clearing the Lakeside playfield; rebuilding the foundation of the Middle Buxton Basic School; re-painting the Keith All-Age School; fencing the Lilyfield cemetery; cleaning and whitewashing the Trysee parish tank; grading the Cave Valley Basic School; and constructing a recreational area at Shawberry Basic School.
The activities will begin with a church service at the Philadelphia Baptist Church on Sunday, May 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will culminate with a public education concert, organized by the St. Ann Red Cross and the Kiwanis Club of Ocho Rios, at the St. Ann’s Bay car park on Labour Day.
The concert, which will begin at 4:00 p.m., will bring out the theme of Labour Day through dub-poetry, skit and music.
