Applications Open for Jamaica Ex-Police Association Scholarship

April 8, 2008

The Full Story

The Jamaica Ex-Police Association of South Florida is now accepting applications for its annual United States and Jamaican scholarships.
The scholarships, which are one-time cash awards, are intended to assist students in high school or college.
In order to qualify for the Jamaican scholarship, applicants must attend a local high school, maintain a satisfactory academic performance, and demonstrate proper conduct, punctuality and attendance. The awards must be used for the purchase of school supplies and uniforms, meet financial need and to further the scholarship of the applicants.
The selection process will be carried out by the Community Relations Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and awards will be made at the Association’s annual clean-up campaign, which will be staged on Friday (May 23) at the Bog Walk Police Station.
In the meantime, the scholarship for the South Florida community will be awarded to an applicant currently residing in the tri-county area and attending a tertiary institution. Students of Jamaican parentage are strongly encouraged to apply.
The South Florida scholarship will be awarded at the Association’s annual fundraising banquet to be held on Saturday (April 19) at the Hilton Hotel in Dania Beach.
The Jamaica Ex-Police Association’s South Florida Chapter consists of almost 100 former members of the JCF, who now reside in Florida. Other chapters are in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
