The Full Story

Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Ralph Thomas, has lauded the Diaspora for continuing to provide valuable support and assistance to the process of nation building in Jamaica.

Addressing members of the Diaspora in Hartford Connecticut, at the Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church recently, Ambassador Thomas noted that overseas nationals have made contributions to health care, education, remittances, among other areas.

“I want to thank you members of the Diaspora for all that you have done and will continue to do for the Jamaican people everywhere.  You have left the shores of Jamaica but you have not forgotten where you are from.  So, on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, I want to extend my sincere thanks to all of you,” he said.

The Ambassador used the opportunity to call on members of the Diaspora to participate more fully in the country’s growth and development.  This, he said, by taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities now available for wealth creation and investment.

Ambassador Thomas said the Government is committed to seeing that the role of the Diaspora fully evolves as a centrepiece for national development.

Ambassador Thomas, who was in Hartford on a four-day official visit, toured the world famous West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame, worshipped at the Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church, and visited with members of the Jamaican business community, the Jamaican Progressive League, and the ex-Jamaica Police Association.

He also held talks with members of the District Export Council, United States Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, the Caribbean Trade Council, and representatives of the University of Connecticut’s School of Medicine.
