The Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) has signed a Sister Airport Cooperation Agreement with the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), airports in Jamaica and Hartsfield Jackson International will exchange ideas and information pertaining to cargo, passenger and traffic development.

The agreement includes capacity building in aviation through training and talent development, as well as technical and managerial support.

Transport and Mining Minister, Hon. Mike Henry, in his remarks at the signing ceremony held on February 9, said the agreement will increase trade and technical cooperation between Jamaica and Atlanta.

He pointed out that Atlanta and Montego Bay have had a sister city relationship for some 45 years, during which Montego Bay has benefitted immensely from the annual Vin Martin health mission founded by the late former Consul General to Atlanta.

Acting General Manager of Hartsfield-Jackson International, Greg Richardson, said “in addition to establishing bonds of friendship, this agreement will pave the way for exchanging ideas and best practices as well as promote economic growth and development.”

He pointed out pointed out that the MoU will help strengthen the ties that exist between the nations, promoting international understanding and goodwill.
