Sixty-five contractors have been invited to submit their applications to the National Contracts Commission (NCC) for registration.
They were among 84 contractors who were denied registration by the NCC on the grounds that the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) was investigating them and had referred their files to the Fraud Squad.
Making his contribution to the 2014/15 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, July 8, Minister with responsibility for the Public Service in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Hon. Horace Dalley, said the NCC has informed him that the Fraud Squad has indicated that they have no further interest in those 65 contractors.
“Fifteen contractors’ files are still with the Fraud Squad and the NCC has requested an update on them. The remaining four are still with the OCG,” the Minister told the House.
Mr. Dalley said no regulatory or certifying agency can operate in this manner if businesses are to develop and thrive.
“Our local contractors play a very important role in executing Government projects, while providing jobs for our people. That is one of the reasons that has led this administration to review the contractor registration process within the context of the new public procurement regime,” the Minister said.
