$400 Million for Port Antonio Sewerage Project

The Full Story

The Port Antonio Water Sewerage and Drainage Project has been allocated $400.6 million in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
Funded by the Government and the European Economic Community, the project seeks to rehabilitate and expand the water supply and distribution systems in Port Antonio; improve the existing drainage system and to introduce a new waste water collection and treatment system in Port Antonio.
Physical achievements up to March 2008 include: design field assessments completed; detailed drawings and tender documents completed; procurement of bulk flow meters for leakage control contract completed; and preliminary pipeline works contract completed.
Anticipated targets for the 2008/09 fiscal year include the implementation of leakage control contract; procurement of works construction services, and commencement of works contract.
